The Sistine Chapel of the Vatican City was built by Pope Sixtus IV and so it owes him its name. The chapel was particularly famous for its decorations with frescoes, which show scenes from Genesis on a total of 520 m² with 115 larger-than-life characters. The ceiling painting was created by Michelangelo Buonarroti during the period of 1508 to 1512. The central ridge consists of nine horizontal image fields of different sizes depicting scenes from the Old Testament: Creation, Adam and Eve, and Noah. Surrounded are the scenes by motifs from the Bible and ancient mythology. True to the original, the ceiling fresco is featured on this remarkable 270 x 390 mm big coin.

Perfect motif for art and coin collectors
The portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer is considered the final and most fully representative work of Gustav Klimt's golden phase. It took the mint more than 2 years to bring the complex original painting onto a coin. The mint master and the engravers used a unique combination of different finishing techniques to achieve this. The result shows that it was worth the effort, with a giant silver kilo coin shining in splendor. Interesting fact: It took the artist a time period of 3 years to complete the original painting, which is made of oil and gold, on a canvas print.
