Sudan was the last surviving male northern white rhino. He was put to sleep in the Ol Pejeta Reserve in Kenya on 19 March 2018. His death also means the final hope for preserving the species has now faded. Sudan’s daughter Najin and granddaughter Fatu are the only two left in the world. Their fate is a warning for thousands of other animal species, which are critically endangered and can only be saved now by concerted action to protect the species.
