The latest edition of the Big Five Gold Set shows the animals
of Asia. The special feature of this issue is that for the first
time it includes an as yet unpublished motif from the Big
Five Asia series – the Giant Panda. The artful designs were
created by renowned medallist and sculptor Beni Debacker.
Each coin was minted individually and then removed from the
minting block by hand – “hand-lifted“ is the technical term.
The mint master personally checked the surface – “proof” on
the value side, “brilliant uncirculated” on the design side.
This enormous effort resulted in a small mintage: only 2,000
collections were minted for the whole world.
