The panda is a symbol of species protection. The clumsy, playful behavior of panda cubs makes them crowd favorites in the
world‘s major zoos. The panda was placed under protection
as early as 1939. In close collaboration with medalist Beni
Debacker, the P. De Greef workshop has now produced the
2-kilogram silver coin. Debacker‘s unique portrait of a panda
cub is striking with an exceptionally pronounced high relief.
The minting process presented a tremendous challenge, with
the individual steps being closely guarded secrets. However,
the result is a masterpiece of minting art and one of the
highest reliefs ever minted on a 2-kilogram silver coin.
